Description

Gheorghe Ilea (b. 1958) is a Romanian painter who graduated from the painting section of the Ion Andreescu Institute of Fine Arts, Cluj in 1984. He is a member of the Union of Visual Artists of Romania and currently lives and works in Zalău. He made his artistic debut in 1984 at the Tribuna Gallery. Between 2015 and 2019, the Ilea art gallery functioned in Cluj-Napoca, which exclusively featured works by the artist, and was opened by his son, Daniel Ilea. Works by Gheorghe Ilea can be found in a number of art collections both in Romania (National Museum of Contemporary Art, Bucharest, Art Museum, Cluj-Napoca) and abroad (USA, Austria, Germany, Hungary, etc.). The artist is represented by Plan B Gallery, from Cluj and Berlin.

Gheorghe Ilea's art skilfully depicts everyday life in Romania, capturing the essence of common experiences and cultural symbols. His work invites viewers to contemplate the significance hidden within the mundane, shedding light on the nuances of Romanian society while evoking a sense of familiarity and nostalgia. Through his art, Ilea encourages a deeper reflection on the human condition.
