Victoria Sadovnic (b. 1997) is a graduate of the painting department of the University of Art and Design, Cluj-Napoca, where she currently lives and works. In 2019 she participated through the ERASMUS scheme in an internship program at Plan B Gallery in Berlin. Her works have been shown in group exhibitions held in spaces such as Centrul de Interes and RELICVAR Art Space and at Biju Gallery in Cluj-Napoca.
Victoria Sadovnic’s small, en plein air pastel compositions reflect a romantic philosophy that connects the individual with nature through contemplation. This state leads to the dissolution of the finitude of man in the infinity of nature. Elevated into the realm of the sublime, nature acquires values that often come into tension. The artist embraces the texture of pastels along with a desaturated, weakly vibrated chromaticism. Large patches of muted colors are interspersed while outlines are dissipated in a penumbra of mist. Different light conditions are used to create specific types of atmosphere. However, her quests always transcend any merely mimetic purpose.
