Description

Born in Bucharest in 1968, lives and works in Berlin. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, in the class of Daniel Spoerri. The artist represented Romania at the 2005 Venice Biennale with his work European Flu. In 2017 he participated in documenta 14 in Kassel and Athens.

The artist who emptied the Romanian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 2005 (European Influenza) is well known for the fact that in his art he operates with ambiguity, which leaves no room for easy viewing. In this case, the photograph documents the reuse of an old windmill in the Dutch city via the removal of the vertical propellers.

What kind of windmill operates horizontally? The artist's invention is not just a foray into the absurd, or even an anarchist gesture, but rather makes us rethink seemingly natural phenomena such as the action of the wind.
