Lea Rasovszky (b. 1986) lives and works in Bucharest. She graduated from the National University of Art, Bucharest, Department of Photography and Video, in 2008 and followed this up with an MA (awarded 2010) at the same university and department. In 2018 she embarked on doctoral studies at the Art History and Theory Department of the same university.
Her projects highlight the stereotypes and values of society, towards which she takes a critical view. Everything is filtered through a rough and ironic style of drawing, often combined with immersive installations that rely on the viewer for the completion of the context.
In 2016, she co-founded the Maatka Phi Association, which aims to become involved in social, educational, and cultural activities while promoting culture and arts in general, with particular emphasis on contemporary art. Matka sets out to combine our empathy for numerous disenfranchised communities with the energy of the cultural and creative industries, which are in a process of ongoing growth and expansion.
In the spring of 2020, she co-founded the structure now called Atelierele Malmaison, an initiative that subsidises affordable spaces for the local artistic community and also functions as a meeting place for diverse creative entities. In 2023, some of the first floor residents formed the artistic group L1, which carries out a range of activities and is involved in artistic and social projects.
"To better understand our emotions, sometimes a good cry is necessary. However, we must do this together. If we retreat to our rooms, playing our melancholy music and never discussing our feelings, it won't be effective. Let's allow ourselves to be real and show our ungraceful sides. Crier is an evolving work, much like humans; it's meant to evolve and to alter perceptions. Everything makes us different from each other, even the color of our tears." (Source: learasovszky.fun)
